CATEGORY:SPORTS(CRICKET) --------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA WEDNESDAY September 05,2007 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: The diminutive, elegant and hard-hitting Grenadian/ West Indian opening batsman, Devon Smith, has been included in the West Indies team to contest the upcoming Twenty/20 World Cup tournament in South Africa. The tournament is expected to begin on September 11. The 25-year-old left hander was a member of the West Indies team that recently toured England where he performed quite creditably with the bat, especially in the first Twenty/20 match against England. Pedro Collins, the 31-year-old left-arm pace bowler form Barbados, and the Guyanese all-rounder Narsingh Deonarine have both been recalled to join the West Indies cricket team for the upcoming tournament. Collins has been left out of the West Indies senior squad for some time now, much to the concern and chagrin of many regional cricket fans who saw his ability to swing the new ball as an asset to the West Indies team. The full West Indies squad for the Twenty/20 World Cup reads: Ramnaresh Sarwan (Captain), Chris Gayle, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Marlon Samuels, Devon Smith, Runako Morton, Denesh Ramdin, Darren Sammy, Dwayne Bravo, Ravi Rampaul, Dwayne Smith, Darren Powell, Pedro Collins, Fidel Edwards and Narsingh Deonarine. The teams in the tournament are grouped as follows: Group A - Bangladesh, South Africa, West Indies Group B - England, Australia, Zimbabwe Group C - New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Kenya Group D - India, Pakistan, Scotland The West Indies team is expected to play its first game against host country, South Africa, at the Wanderers on Tuesday September 11, 2007.
