GRENADIAN TO BECOME FIRST BLACK RECIPIENT OF RYERSON AW...
Grenada's Honourary Consul General in Toronto, Jenny Gumbs, will Thursday become the first Black recipient of the Ryerson University Alumni Achievement award. Ms Gumbs, a part-time student who graduated in 2002 with a Degree in Public Administration, is of one nine recipients of the award which was launched in 1998 in conjunction with the university's 50th anniversary. She praised the institution for recognising her, adding that it has helped to shape her life and equip her with skills to better serve her country and its people overseas. Ms Gumbs joined the Consulate in Toronto as an administrative assistant in 1987. She served as Honourary Consul for seven years until being appointed Honourary Consul General last February when Conrad Gibbs retired. The awards honour Ryerson graduates who have not only excelled in their respective careers, but have made significant contributions to their profession, their community and their country.
