CLARITY GIVEN ON RECENT BUS FARE INCREASE
CATEGORY:TRANSPORTATION --------------------------- INSIDE GRENADA SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 15, 2007 PRESS RELEASE ST.GEORGE’S: Minister with responsibility for Transportation Senator Brenda Hood met with presidents of the various bus associations, following complaints that some buses were overcharging passengers. The bus men related to the Minister that the problem came about when it was said that the fifty cent increase will be "across the board" and asked that it be clarified. In response, the Minister explained to the representatives that the fifty-cent increase effective August 15, 2007, meant that everyone will pay the fifty cents with the exception of pre-primary and primary school students who will pay half the adult fare. Secondary school students out of uniform will be required to pay the adult fare. Issues with respect to inconsistency of prices in some zones were also raised. The bus men were encouraged to stick to the stipulated rates.
