JUNIOR CALYPSO WORKSHOPS
The recently formed DMJ Foundation for the Performing Arts will be conducting a series of Junior Calypso Workshops beginning this weekend. The aim of the Foundation is to ensure an atmosphere for growth and development prevails, especially for those young persons among us with a proclivity for the performing arts. The initial workshop takes place on Saturday, September 22, at the St. John RC School starting at 10am. This workshop will involve young persons from the Parish of St. John and St. Mark and is being facilitated in conjunction with the St. John Social and Cultural Organization. On Thursday October 4 the session will be conducted in the Parish of St. Patrick. This workshop will take place at the St. Patrick Anglican School and is being conducted in partnership with the St. Patrick Anglican School. The series move to the Parish of St. David at the St. David Catholic Secondary School on Saturday October 06th. Calypsonian Eddison Francis (Teacher Eddie) will be working along with the DMJ Foundation for the Performing Arts to ensure the successful hosting of the workshops in the Parish of St. David On Saturday October 13 the junior calypso caravan travels to the Parish of St. Andrew where the Workshop will be held at Bain’s Upper Level. The St. Andrew CDC is partnering with the Foundation to facilitate the forum. Saturday October 20 will see the DMJ Foundation taking the workshop series to the Sister Isles to conduct Workshops for the Junior Calypsonians in Carriacou and Petit Martinique. The Junior Calypso Workshops will coincide with a workshop to be conducted in Carriacou with the Grenada Calypso Judges Association. The workshops for Junior Calypsonians will focus mainly on the writing talents of the young participants. It therefore means that not every participant will be inclined to write a Calypso, but the Workshops will serve also to discover the poets and storytellers etc. among us. The workshops will continue for the course of the present school year with the elongated schedule being determined as we visit the various locations. The main facilitators for the Workshops will be Mr. Colin Dowe, Mr. Aalan Robinson, Mr. Neil Ferguson and Mr. Marieo Castle. The DMJ Foundation for the Performing Arts would like to thank Courts Grenada Ltd., Mitchell’s Pharmacy Ltd., Duty Free Caribbean Holdings and the Grenada Bottling Company Ltd. for recognizing the importance of Human and Social development through their commitment to the Junior Calypso Workshops. The DMJ Foundation for the Performing Arts would like to reaffirm its commitment to the nurturing and development of our Nation’s youths.
