ST.ANDREW’S: The Carib-sponsored St.Andrew’s Cricket League (SACL) - one of the oldest, most well-organized sports association in Grenada - will be holding its annual prize-giving ceremony on Saturday November 10, 2007. The function will be held at Papa Ds establishment - located inside of Mirabeau, St. Andrew’s. The event is expected to commence around 6:30 pm.
This year, some forty-three (43) cricket clubs registered to play cricket with SACL making it one of the very few associations in the country to organize and successfully run a competition of this magnitude. The teams were organized into four divisions: A, B, C and D.
Prizes, which include trophies and cricket paraphernalia, will be distributed to the teams placing first, second and third in each of the four divisions. Additionally, individual awards will be given to cricketers of the league who have performed with merit throughout the 2007 season. These awards will include the M V P (Most Vital Player) of the competition; the best all-round bowling performance; the highest individual score in an innings; the most amount of runs, wickets, catches, and stumpings in each of the four divisions among other individual accolades.
A number of special guests have been invited to the awards ceremony on Saturday and have already confirmed their participation in the event. A party has also been planned by the SACL and is expected to commence after the ceremony is finished.
Already, the SACL has started planning for next year and are putting the requisite structures in place with a view to organizing and executing another successful tournament in 2008.
