Health authorities in Grenada have denied claims of an outbreak of tuberculosis (TB) at the Richmond Hill Prison after the Grenada Bar Association (GBA) said it was concerned over reports that several inmates had contracted the disease. Chief Medical Officer Dr. Dilip Mukerjee, in a brief statement issued late Monday denied the claim saying there is no confirmation of the disease in the prison. He said epidemiologists recently tested all inmates housed at Richmond Hill Prison for the contagious disease and none were infected with active tuberculosis. Monday in a letter to the Minister for Health Ann David-Antoine, GBA president Ruggles Ferguson said urgent action needed to be taken to control the situation at the island's lone penal institution. The GBA President warned that if the situation remains unchecked, the wider population faces the risk of being infected.
