HEAVY RAINS DOUSE GRENADA |
|
|
Disaster officials in Grenada have urged residents living near rivers to be prepared to evacuate their homes as heavy rain caused severe flooding in several rural communities.
Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Agency, Sylvan McIntyre, said hours of heavy rainfall was making the situation in several communities dangerous.
The disaster official said a passing tropical wave had so far dumped over two inches of rain on the country in less than eight hours.
The rushing rivers are reportedly visibly weakening some bridges in western Grenada, and residents said one bridge in St. John's parish appeared close to collapse
Officials said the situation throughout the country would be assessed as soon as the weather permitted.
