FIRST EVER CARRIACOU YOUTH FORUM  
The youth of Carriacou and Petite Martinique were in action last weekend as the Department of Youth Development staged a successful Youth Forum at the Hillsborough Tennis Court. Over three hundred youth converged on the location to witness the activity under the theme: “Choices, Challenges and Commitments”. There were cultural performances from the Unity Steelband School who played a wide variety of contemporary music as well as Christmas tunes. Also performing were Skinny Banton, Leftist, Carriacou Youth Department Staff and others. Those in attendance also got the opportunity to view booths by the Department of Youth and the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) and video presentations on the Departments various programmes and activities. The programme included as well a positive DJ clash between female Disc Jockey DJ Nato and DJ Rennie. Minister of Youth Development Senator the Honourable Emmalin Pierre spoke of how happy she was to be in Carriacou among so many positive young persons. The Youth Minister also did a developmental session with the youth gathered under the day’s theme. She urged the young men and women to be very careful in the choices they make. Senator Pierre spoke of the importance of making good decisions and of facing up to the challenges that they all will inevitably face. Member of Parliament for Carriacou and Petite Martinique and Minister of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs, Foreign Affairs and Attorney General, Honourable Elvin Nimrod was high in praise of the work of the Department of Youth Development. He stated that government has proven its commitment to youth development time and time again by creating programmes and opportunities such as the IMANI and the Youth Enterprise Initiative which provide positive avenues for the nation’s youth to empower themselves. Minister Nimrod also stated that government remains steadfast in its support of youth and youth programmes. He also made mention of Mr. Keishroy De Roche of Petite Martinique who is due to leave the island on Monday 12th November for the Uganda as one of Grenada’s representatives to the Commonwealth Youth Forum being held in the African country. The Department of Youth continues to empower the nation’s youth with positive programmes and activities during the month of November with Youth Pulse activities carded for New Hampshire and Mt Horne as well as several end of year activities for IMANI Trainees and other persons involved in Youth Department Programmes.
