CATEGORY:SPORTS(FOOTBALL) ------------------------------ INSIDE GRENADA SATURDAY NOVEMBER 17,2007 by Wallace J.A ST.ANDREW’S: The SAASS Alumni Association (New York Chapter) has recently donated a number of football sweats to the young footballers of the St.Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School. The organization, headed by Mr. Aiden Pursoo, has been making contributions to the institution over the years with the central motive of making positive impacts on the holistic development of the children who attend the school. SAASS has been able to develop an unparalleled and enviable reputation over the years as one of the nation’s top performers in the realms of sports and academics. This year, the school’s football teams have been performing exceptionally well. In the Republic Bank’s Right Start Youth Football Tournament, the school has been able to make it through to the finals in three categories and the semi-finals in one category. In the junior division, SAASS defeated Mc Donald’s College 4-3 in an exciting semi-final encounter played at the Pearls Playing Field. They will go on to play St. Mark’s Secondary in the final. This game will be played at the Alston George Park in Victoria next week Wednesday (November 21). In the senior division, SAASS defeated the St. John’s Christian Secondary School in a semi-final encounter 2-0, thereby booking their place in the final. In the open, knock-out competition, SAASS defeated St. Rose Modern Secondary in their semi-final encounter and will play St. Mark’s Secondary in the final at the Pearls Playing Field on Monday November 19. SAASS girls have also shown that they are a force to be reckoned with in the field of soccer and have made it through to the semi-final round of their competition. The head coach of the SAASS football teams is former national coach, Michael ‘Niko’ Felix. Felix, in an exclusive interview with Grenadian Connection, expressed the view that SAASS has an excellent chance of taking all the trophies in this year’s tournament back to the school at Telescope, St.Andrew’s. Grenadian Connection wishes the SAASS football teams all the best in their remaining matches.

Good to see the progress SAASS making inspite and despite all the odds. It would have been nice though for the benefit of us out here to say who were the individuals making the presentations. Fortunately for me I happen to know the two people. The very very wonderful lady has been involved for a very long time with the school, Ms. Joseph/Williams. In the case of the gentleman I think it is safe to say the whole family went to SAASS, about how many of them close to ten! Mr. John good going.
