INSIDE GRENADA MONDAY December 10,2007 From the opposition NDC As a young, well-educated woman, Ingrid Jackson represents a significant segment of the population of the new Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Having reached maturity after Independence and the Revolution she shares with an increasing number of citizens a new worldview. She brings to the table the conviction that her country can do better and the courage to speak out. It is for this reason that she has decided to contest the St. George’s North West constituency, currently held by the Prime Minister. Ingrid was born in her constituency and knows it well. In her regular interaction with the people, she has picked up from them an overwhelming sense of neglect. Hence, there are three issues which they want to see addressed: • Empowerment of ordinary people through enterprise training and business development • A more equitable distribution of resources • Better use of community facilities to improve the quality of life This feeling of neglect is reflected across the country. Ingrid has therefore become an advocate for unemployed and underemployed youth, single parents and all those who cannot make ends meet due to the high cost of living. She is also involved in the campaign to halt the spread of HIV/AIDS, wipe out illiteracy and reduce anti-social behaviour among young people. Ingrid values education highly. Acting on wise advice from her mentor, she has pursued tertiary level education in order to prepare herself for high office. She now holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Education and has nearly completed her MBA at St. Andrews University of the USA. In between, Ingrid has worked as a Project Administrator and General Manager in the tourism sector. Ingrid has always had an interest in politics. She believes that during the past 12 years politics has become more divisive in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. She wants to see greater unity in her country and a closing of the class divide. She wants to see the more privileged groups giving something back to the community to help the disadvantaged members. It is this spirit of “giving back” that has attracted her to the National Democratic Congress. Ingrid is a mother of a 12-year old son and a member of a large extended family. She understands fully that “it takes a community to raise a child”. It is for this reason that she wants to see communities empowered. She needs your support to help save Grenada from tyranny.
