INSIDE GRENADA TUESDAY December 11,2007 St. GEORGE’S. The curtains came down on the Festival of the Arts competition organized by the Division of Culture within the Ministry of Tourism last week Thursday (December 06, 2007). Acting Chief Cultural Officer Mr. Thomas Mathew deemed the competition, which started approximately three months ago very successful. He said that the Festival was long overdue and he is happy that the Division was able to start the revival process since the Festival was suspended after the passage of the two hurricanes. He also stated that he believed that young people have abounding talent and energy and that they do need an outlet. Our youths need to be channel in the right direction. Permanent Secretary in the Ministry Mrs. Arlene Buckmire-Outram gave brief remarks at the finals and praised the Division for a job well done. She said that the Ministry was extremely delighted to embrace the Festival with open arms, since youth development is of paramount importance to nation building. The official results for the first three places in the different categories are: In class six, there was one choir, which was the Chantimelle Teachers Choir. Class five Secondary Mixed Choir: Happy Hill Secondary School (first), followed by T.A.M.C.C. St. Patrick’s and they were followed by Mt. Rose S.D.A. Class four Secondary Boys Choir: St. David’s Catholic Secondary (winner) followed by Presentation Brothers College, followed by the Grenada Boys Secondary School. Class three Secondary School Girls Choir: The winner was St. Joseph’s Convent St. George’s, they were followed by the Mt. Rose S.D.A, and in third place was the St. Joseph Covent St. Andrew’s. Class two Primary School Boys Choir: Woburn Methodist School (winner), followed by St. George’s S.D.A, followed by J.W Fletcher Memorial. Class two choir Primary School Girls and Boys with unbroken voices: St. Louis Girl’s R.C (winner), followed by St. George’s S.D.A, followed by Crochu R.C. Reprinted from Government of Grenada website.
