A sick-out by cabin crew at the regional airline, LIAT, grounded many flights Wednesday and severely impacted on regional travellers using the island-hopping carrier. The Management at the Antigua-based airline, confirmed that most of its cabin crew called in sick resulting in widespread dislocation. Many flights to LIAT's 21 Caribbean destinations were cancelled, with the remainder operating with significant delays. According to the airline's commercial office in Barbados, all efforts to contact the Flight Attendant Association were futile and no reason was given for the protest action. The industrial action comes on the heels of a warning issued by the intra regional carrier to Caribbean travelers, to expect some turbulence in regional air travel over the busy Christmas period, as a result of a shortage in aircraft.
