CRICKETERS BACK ON THE PITCH
Members of Grenada's national Twenty20 squad who went on strike last week have ended their protest action. The players returned to Queen's Park Stadium to resume training in preparation for the start of the second Stanford Twenty20 Cup in January. They had protested by refusing to take to the field for training after they returned from a practice series in neighbouring Trinidad and Tobago last week. They were asking for signed contracts and about EC$1,000 each owed to them from last year's competition. The players reportedly agreed to abandon their protest after discussing the matter with team management. A senior cricket administrator blamed the strike on improper communication which resulted in players' misunderstanding the arrangements ahead of the competition. The 19-member squad in training is expected to be reduced to a final 16 players who will all receive contracts. Grenada, a semifinalist in last year's inaugural event, play Anguilla on February 3 in its first game of this season's Stanford Twenty20. Reprinted from nnews.com
