INSIDE GRENADA JANUARY 03, 2008 From Signature Communications A commemorative plaque was unveiled by Prime Minister The Right Honourable Dr Keith Mitchell, PC., to mark the official commencement of the new Levera Eco-Resort project at a formal reception attended by Ministers, Government Officials, members of the business community, and St Patrick’s residents, held on Sunday 30 December at the Levera Resort Clubhouse. The Prime Minister was assisted by Mrs Earleen Taylor, Grenadian wife of the new owner, Mr Paul Taylor. The engraved granite plaque is set in one of the natural rocks that are a characteristic of the National Park, and will stand in the grounds of the Clubhouse as a fitting emblem to mark the ecological goals of the project. In a short speech at the ceremony, Mrs Taylor expressed the aim she has with her husband - to create a long term legacy to Grenada and its people, particularly the residents of St. Patrick. Mrs Taylor then presented a donation to Mr Steven John, Manager of the Leonard Cheshire Foundation Fr. Hilarion Home, Sauteurs, for repairs to the building and roof, and a second donation to Mr James Robinson, Chairman of GRENSAVE, to be used for the Sauteurs Child Development Centre. In building the island’s first world-class Eco-Resort at Levera, important sustainable employment and business opportunities will be generated in the north of the island, giving a welcome boost to the economy of the area. Also, as a priority, work has begun on a committed regeneration and conservation program, in conjunction with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Forestry Division and local and international conservation organisations. This will concentrate particularly on the enhancement of the National Park, and protection of Levera Beach and the turtle nesting sites, for the benefit and enjoyment of Grenadians and visitors alike. The Resort is currently scheduled to be completed by late 2009, when it will be managed by an international operator, able to offer significant marketing skills to bring a world-wide focus on Grenada as an eco-destination, in keeping with the natural beauty of the island and its environment.
