NDC DEPUTY POLITICAL LEADER WRITES SUPERVISOR OF ELECTI...
INSIDE GRENADA JANUARY 12, 2008 From the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ms. Nadica McIntyre Supervisor of Elections Parliamentary Elections Office Woolwich Road St. George's Via Fax Dear Ms. McIntyre, Request for Extension of Deadline I refer to previous correspondence in this regard and wish to reiterate that the deadline given for scrutiny of the published list and for the receipt of reports on discrepancies, objections, claims etc. is inadequate. We have already placed on record that the festive season was not appropriate. However, given the plethora of irregularities and the general defective character of the published list, it is imperative that a further extension be given. The general public and more particularly, those persons charged with the responsibility of recording and registering these deficiencies at the constituency level, are now at a serious disadvantage, having to wade through a List which has reintroduced names of persons already deleted from previous Lists. This situation therefore calls for additional resources: personnel, time, and money, to rectify problems and concerns previously amended. This is further complicated by the procedure set out in the REGISTRATION OF ELECTIONS RULES, 2006. See Rule 30(2) in this regard. This precarious situation that has arisen is not the doing of the constituency workers, the voters or the general public but is a direct consequence of the work of the Office under your supervision. Therefore the general public should not be saddled with unrealistic deadlines for raising claims, objection etc. Given the considerations noted above, we are requesting a more realistic deadline of January 21st 2008. Your cooperation in this regard would be greatly appreciated. In addition, I have yet to receive the summary report on Continuous Registration for the period July 1st -September 30th 2007, as previously discussed. I have taken the liberty to attach a copy of how this is prepared for ease of reference. It may also be helpful if in doubt, to contact the former Supervisor of Elections - Mr. Victor Ashby for further assistance. Respectfully, ............................................. Senator George W. Prime Attachments (2) C.c. Governor General, Sir Daniel Williams Mr. Francis McBarnette - OAS Representative - Grenada
