GEORGE GRANT NOT ALLOWED TO ASK PM QUESTIONS

INSIDE GRENADA JANUARY 23, 2008 January 22, 2008 Dr. Hon. Keith Mitchell Prime Minister PRIME MINISTER'S OFFICE GOVERNMENT OF GRENADA Botanical Gardens St. George, Grenada Dear Prime Minister; May I begin by thanking you for what I -- in my humble opinion -- thought was an excellent media conference earlier today. I trust that you observed my nods of concurrence with several of your responses. However, I write today to express my utter disappointment that your Director of Information and Press Secretary opted to prevent me from asking any questions at the conference, even though my first request was made while Cablevision’s Beverly Sinclair (the third person to ask questions) was making her intervention. No doubt, the Director of the GIS and your press secretary will deny that this was deliberate; and I am sure that they will provide most impressive and plausible explanations. But, thankfully, other members of the press corps saw what was happening, and even intervened on my behalf (trying to have the Director of the GIS pass the microphone to me). But, they too, were shunned. Ironically, I was made to understand that even the NNP's webmaster reminded the Director of the G.I.S that I wanted to ask questions, but he too, was ignored. These developments were very disturbing, Mr. Prime Minister, particularly in light of your admonitions to the media. When today's media conference was announced yesterday, I placed a note on my website asking visitors to the site to let me know what they had wanted me to ask of you. Several questions were posted --- all of which could certainly not have been entertained in today's session. However, I did choose just two which I had hoped that you would respond to. Regrettably, that did not happen. I was delighted to hear in your closing comments that you would be appearing on several media outlets in the coming weeks. As such, I have opted to adopt a gentlemanly posture and, once again, publicly invite you to appear on SUNDAYS WITH GEORGE GRANT during these visits. You will be facing not just a local audience; but an international one which, I trust, would be deeply appreciative of an opportunity to dialogue with you. I would appreciate having a response from you at your earliest possible convenience. Respectfully yours, George Grant Producer/Host SUNDAYS WITH GEORGE GRANT The above article was re-printed from grenadabroadcast.com
