NNP HOLDS 22ND NATIONAL CONVENTION TOMORROW
INSIDE GRENADA JANUARY 26, 2008 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: The ruling New National Party (NNP) of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell will be holding its 22nd annual convention tomorrow (Sunday January 27) at the Grenada Trade Center. On Tuesday of this week, the executive of the NNP held a press conference to discuss plans for Sunday’s momentous function. The massive public rallies which are usually associated with the NNP conventions will not take place this year because of the launch of the Grenada Sailing Festival, which is also scheduled to take place tomorrow. During the closed/private morning session, it is expected that important party matters will be discussed and an election held to put in place an executive body for the upcoming 2008 period. Approximately 350 delegates from the 15 constituencies throughout the tri-island state are expected to attend this session. The closed/ private morning session will be followed by the open session during the afternoon for party supporters and the public. This year’s convention revolves around the theme: NNP for positive change…let the progress continue.” The function is expected to commence around 8 am and is scheduled to conclude around 4pm. Today (Saturday January 26) the NNP will be endorsing Mr. Kennedy Roberts, caretaker for the constituency of St. George’s North East, as its candidate to contest the next general election. Mr. Roberts will be coming up against the incumbent NDC representative for the constituency, Mr. Nazim Burke, who happens to be one of the top brass in the NDC’s political machinery. This event is carded to take place at around 4 pm at the New Hampshire Community Center (Willis). A number of other NNP caretakers are expected to be endorsed within the upcoming month.
