INSIDE GRENADA FEBRUARY 02, 2008 by James B The NNP Caretaker for the Constituency of St. Andrew’s NW, Mrs. Delma Thomas, this week donated a number of sporting paraphernalia to cricket teams within her constituency. On Saturday February 2, the young men belonging to the Saab Cricket Team received cricket balls, bats, keeping-gloves, batting pads, stumps, cricket helmets among other items from Mrs. Thomas, who had promised to assist them in their preparations for the 2008 St. Andrew’s cricket competition. In a short handing-over ceremony, Mrs. Thomas encouraged the excited young men at St. Cloud’s to take good care of the cricket gears and to always demonstrate true sportsmanship both on and off the cricket field. She told them that they should always focus on doing things that are positive and personally uplifting and admonished them about the futility of getting involved in negative, self-destructive activities. Speaking on behalf of the group, one of the young cricketers thanked Mrs. Thomas for her kind generosity and promised her that they were going to take good care of the cricket gears, play positive cricket and endeavor to come first in their zone. Earlier on this week, the youngsters from the Adelphi Cricket Club in Birchgrove and the Bamboo Uprising Cricket Club from ‘Bamboo’ also received a number of much-needed cricket items from Mrs. Thomas. In a very powerful and impressive speech delivered during the recently held 22nd Annual Convention of the NNP, Mrs. Delma Thomas gave the nation a glimpse of her vision for St. Andrew’s NW. The future of the young people and the development of sports and culture in her constituency were featured quite prominently in her address. She told an appreciative audience that she was a woman of action and that her presence should not only be seen but should also be felt by her constituents. So far, Mrs. Thomas has been very instrumental in bringing much-needed relief and assistance to a number of persons, groups and institutions in her constituency and a number of projects are currently on-stream in St. Andrew’s NW. It would seem as if this young lady intends to deliver on the major promise that she has made – to be a woman of action, not just words.
