RACING STAR IN GRENADA FOR INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATIONS
Formula One star Lewis Hamilton is in Grenada to take part in the island's 34th anniversary of independence from Britain.
Hamilton, whose grandfather migrated to England from Grenada in the 1950s, was welcomed by a large delegation including Prime Minister Keith Mitchell and Hamilton's Grenadian relatives.
"Grenadians are very proud of you. Everywhere people are excited about your visit," Mitchell told Hamilton during a ceremony at the international airport.
The 23-year-old Hamilton — who finished second in the F1 championship last year in his rookie season —got his first taste of racing when his father bought him a kart for Christmas just before he turned 8.
He is expected to speak at an ceremony marking Grenada's independence from England in 1974.
