SAASS RECEIVES ASSISTANCE FROM ALUMNI IN NEW YORK

INSIDE GRENADA FEBRUARY 11, 2008 by Wallace J.A GRENADA: The St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS), located in the rural community of Telescope, has received some timely assistance from its Alumni association in New York. The Sports Department of the school was the recipient of medals, trophies, T-shirts, starting pistols and blanks ahead of the schools Inter-House sports meeting which is scheduled to take place this Thursday (February 14) at the Progress Park playing field. SAASS has a very rich sporting legacy and holds the reputation of being one of the major sporting powerhouses on the island. The school has produced many athletes of very high caliber over the years, such as Alleyne Francique, Randy Lewis, FitzGerald Davis, Livingston Nelson, Eugene Licourish, Kendell Simon and Trish Bartholomew, just to name a few. SAASS is the only educational institution on the island to win the annual INTERCOL games on fourteen different occasions since the inception of the games back on the 1970s. Members of the Alumni Association who were instrumental in assisting the school in its preparations for this years sports meeting include Joseph Lewis, Alonzo Bryson, Anthony Bernard, Aretha Alexander, Byron Charles, Daniel Alexander, Debra Williams, Dennis king, Desmond Phillip, Earl Henry, Edwin Adonis, Eugene Licorish, Gail Francis, Gerry Hopkins, Godrick Taylor, Joseph Williams, Lawrence Burke, Leon Antoine, Leslyn Nyack, Marsha Tillock Lewis, Mike Telesford, Ninon Burke, Stafford John, Stafford StClair, Trevor Noel, Yvette Gittens and Kent Simon. The Alumni Association is also presently attempting to garner much needed material support for the current crop of SAASS athletes to enable them to perform well during this year’s INTERCOL Games scheduled to take place sometime around March 12-13, 2008.
