GRENADA HELPING HANDS RESOURCE CENTER Serving the Caribbean Community in New York Dear Friends: On January 26, 2008 a few Grenadians came together to discuss the idea of finding resources to meet the needs of fellow Grenadians in the community that are experiencing financial and medical hardships. The impetus for this meeting was, and continues to be, the financial and medical situation of a fellow Grenadian who is suffering from chronic diabetes and has some contributing ailments stemming from the disease. We decided that we can make a difference in helping, not only "that individual" but also, individuals in the greater Caribbean community who may have similar circumstances and situations. After discussing the situation, and taking into account the number of Caribbean people living in New York who may need help, and the numerous amounts that travel to the United States seeking medical treatment, it was decided that we can better help more people by setting up a Resource Center to serve the community. The Grenada Helping Hands Resource Center (“GHHRC”) is headed by a Steering Committee comprising of the following persons: Dean Collins, Judy Phillip, Marilyn Ogilvie-Hamilton, Michelle Peterson and Wendy Bruno. Our mission is to empower the lives of our fellow Caribbean countrymen and women one individual at a time. We plan to accomplish this goal by extending a helping hand and providing all necessary assistance required. This assistance will be made available based on resources that are researched, assessed, compiled and distributed accordingly. Through this process Grenada Helping Hands Resource Center (“GHHRC”), in times of need, will be a life line that our community can rely on. In order to set up the center and fulfill this endeavor, we are planning our first fund-raiser "Brunch" on Sunday, March 30, 2008, 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and are seeking your support in the form of monetary donations toward this very important mission.
