CUBAN TEACHING METHOD BEARS FRUIT IN GRENADA
In the Caribbean island of Grenada, 112 formerly illiterate citizens were the first to learned how to read and write with the Cuban teaching method "Yo si Puedo" (Yes, I can). The graduates received their diplomas from the hands of Grenada's Education Ministry officials and members of the Cuban diplomatic mission to that country. Grenada's education minister expressed appreciation for the Cuban collaboration and noted that the literacy programme in his country started in 1980 with Cuban assistance, while former President Maurice Bishop ruled the country. During the ceremony, held at a high school in the capital city St George's, participants highlighted the importance of improving education levels, as Caribbean nations are currently striving for integration and development. Grenada is one of the many countries implementing the Cuban audiovisual teaching method, whose success begins to show in just a 90-day period.
