NEWSPAPER FACES SHUT DOWN
One of Grenada's leading newspapers is in danger of being shut down after losing a court battle with Prime Minister Keith Mitchell. Dr Mitchell won a libel suit against the Grenada Today newspaper following the 1999 elections. Prime Minister Mitchell was also awarded 150,000 EC dollars in damages plus costs. However the money was not paid and an application was brought against the paper for bankruptcy. Grenada Today later failed in its challenge to the application to shut it down. The lawyer representing the paper says he plans to take the matter to the court of appeal. Reprinted from bbccaribbean.com
