PRIME MINISTER MITCHELL HINTS THAT ELECTIONS WILL BE CA...
INSIDE GRENADA MONDAY APRIL 21, 2008 GRENADA:Prime Minister and political leader of the ruling New National Party (NNP), Dr. Keith Mitchell, hinted yesterday that the next time the NNP calls a major meeting, the much anticipated date for elections will be revealed. He encouraged all persons listening to him to get ready and ensure that they are registered to vote if they have not already done so. Prime Minister Mitchell was at the time speaking at a national Youth Convention and Rally at the Fond Recreation Ground in St. Patrick’s. The convention was held under the theme: NNP Youth, embracing positive change. Reports from persons who attended the youth convention and rally indicate that the Fond Recreation Ground was transformed into ‘a sea of green’ and estimated the crowd to be in the region of between 17,000 to 20, 000 persons – one of the largest crowd to assemble at any given venue in Grenada in recent times. Apart from listening to political speeches from Prime Minister Mitchell, Mrs. Emmalin Pierre (Minister for Youth) and NNP candidates like Mrs. Delma Thomas, Mr. Kennedy Roberts and Mr. Anthony Boatswain among others, the crowd was treated to energetic performances from some of Grenada’s premier soca artists like Sheldon Douglas, Inspector, Baby Killer, Papa Jerry, Zingo, Luni Spark and Electrify, Tallpree, Boogie B and Randy Isaac – just to name a few. There were also live performances from Caribbean artists like Bunji Garlin and his wife Fayon Lyons, Maximus Dan and world-renown Jamaican sensation, Beanie Man. From all indications, political parties in Grenada are already in election mode. The main challenge to the ruling NNP comes from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) headed by Opposition Leader, Mr. Tillman Thomas. The NNP is seeking a fourth consecutive term in office, having held the reigns of government in Grenada since 1995. By Wallace J.A Inside Grenada Reporter
