ST. PAULS, April 26, 2008 - The villagers of Peters Field, St.Paul's, are calling on the Government of Grenada through its Ministry of Works to rebuild the bridge in Peters Field that was destroyed during the month of September 2007. This bridge connects the villages of Peters Field and Morne Jaloux and is used by villagers on a daily basis. Our Senior citizens, pregnant ladies and very young children are at greatest risk and fear for their lives. They are made to walk on a make shift bridge 'TWO SHEETS OF PLY BOARD' that has been placed there by the Ministry of Works for villagers to cross on. That make shift bridge is very shaky and life threatening. Villagers are calling of The Ministry, The Parliamentary Representative, and the Government of Grenada to do something urgently to solve this problem. No one deserves this kind of neglect. Most villagers believe that the project to reconstruct that bridge was undertaken because there was a plan to hold elections in February 2008 and the news bridge will be used to show some sort of progress, however the powers that be changed their minds and are not in a position to give a new date. We are simply saying that we cannot wait on elections we need the bridge to be fixed now. We were patient enough, not saying anything for the past five months. We are calling on the Ministry of Works to do something now. The rainy season is fast approaching and one can only imaging that when the rains begin to pour the dilemma we will be placed in. Presently if there is a drizzle one cannot take the chance to use that bridge because it becomes very slippery from the little mud (soil) on the board. - Just think for a moment when it begins to rain daily. - Think about what happens when the ravine over flows and takes these sheet of ply with it. - Think about a fire or some emergency situation in the village. - Think, Ministry of Works, think. - Think Mr. Representative think. - Please help us before someone dies due to your neglect. By Concerned villagers Peter's Field, St. Pauls
