GRENADIANS CONCERNED ABOUT THE NUMBER OF MURDERS FOR 20...
GRENADA, May 4, 2008 - Although there has not been any release from the Royal Grenada Police Force as yet, information reaching the Inside Grenada news desk indicate that there has been another senseless killing in the Spice Isle. This latest tragedy is believed to have occurred on Friday night (May 2, 2008). The young victim is said to be a resident of Darbeau, St. George’s. His life was cut short by another youth around the vicinity of the Fish Market Car Park during a ‘Happy Hour’ event. The apparent increase in the murder statistics does not seem to be confined to any particular demographic group. Only about eight days earlier, an 81 year old man from Mt Parnassus was arrested and charged by the police in connection with the death of a 77 year old man from the same address. As will be expected, many Grenadians are voicing sincere concerns about the alarming increase in the amount of murders taking place in the country, especially for 2008. Many of them are calling on persons holding positions of authority and influence in the country to put the essential infrastructure in place to urgently address this ugly development. Also, they are encouraging persons in the country to re-focus and re-dedicate themselves to the observance of the cherished Christian tenets that lay at the foundation of our society and always seek to resolve disputes in a peaceful and non-violent way.

This stream of violence is becoming an increasing concern. Certainly for the residents, but also for individuals looking to return to the country,it is also of concern for people who are considering the country as a vacation destination. It is my belief that the Grenadian Government needs to implement stronger penalties for offenders, improve the response time of the Royal Greanada Police Force with regards to disputes/crimes. Improvements should also be made to the Ambulatory services system throughout the island,as far as their response time to people with injuries, which would obviously help save lives. It would be prudent in the interest of the people, to filter out new measures to educate people against violence, begining with the academic system, use the media promote peace and safety in all environments.Employ Advisors, speakers, counsellors, utilize police presence to insure public safety. I've been a regular visitor yearly for the past 9 years and though each year I return, the string of violence seems to be getting progressively worse. So much that it is daunting, and when previously I would be estatic to return home, I find myself questioning wether or not I should... Undeniably something needs to be done, and it should be done in a timely manner.
