GRENADA, May 05, 2008 - Fellow Grenadians at home and in the Diaspora! It is a pleasure for me to address you through this article.
During the last few months, Grenadians at home and abroad have been deluged with varying bits of information pertaining to the next general elections in Grenada. I do agree that pending general elections in any society brings wit it a level of excitement, uncertainty and concerns. This current situation currently exists on our lovely nation of Grenada. Yes, there is need for concern about the governance of the polls; the ongoing threats of violence by the Opposition New Democratic Party and promise of labour unrest by the Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) headed by Chester Humphrey. What is very interesting about Chester's ongoing threats is that there is no ongoing major dispute or negotiations with his Union which could result in a shut down of the Island. Chester seem to forget that it is Grenadians who pays his bills.
Why this ongoing threat? Certainly there is a clear alignment between TAWU, the Ciboney Law Chambers who act for the TAWU and of course President Humphrey, a known Revolutionary Military Council (RMC) accomplice. Then who forms and control the operational structure of CIBONEY LAW CHAMBERS? There is Nazim Burke, Peter David, Ferron Lowe and a host of others whose loyalty and life long commitment is to the RMC under the leadership of Bernard Coard and his Richmond Hill remnants.
The New National Party under Mitchell's leadership is not perfect. Many mistakes have been made and many of them could have been avoided if the right servants and operatives were in place. In recent times, we have witnessed a major decline in mistakes by the Government which now allows it to continue on the path of progress which ultimately benefit Grenadians both in the Rural and Urban areas.
The Opposition New Democratic Congress (NDC) remains to a great extent in the political history of Grenada "a cry cry opposition party". Grenadians must be reminded that the NDC held the reign of power before the NNP.We cannot distinguish the leadership or participants at the time. Therefore, it is very dishonest for those who are currently elected to Parliament and, pleased to serve under the name of the NDC to tell Grenadians that "we are a different bunch"
Naz Burke, Tillman Thomas, Peter David, Arlene Walker are all the same and nothing should stop Grenadians from understanding that it is the same NDC.I suspect that Nicholas Braithwaite and George Brizan are asking questions about the motive of these new kids on the block.
The current NDC goon squad should not attempt to hide or distant themselves from the previous policies of the NDC which brought burdensome income tax; sale of our national utility service; lack of support for our financial institutions; a decline in law and order and weakening of the judiciary; a decline in health care and the miserable failure of the NDC Government to embark upon a strategy of good and reasonable health care for the population.
The NNP came into power and given the restraints which were created by the NDC, the NNP went into full action. What resulted from their bold action?
A brand new hospital
Increased medical experts including diabetes and heart personnel;
Better optometry services
Better Dental Care
Elimination of Income Tax
100% Concessions to Taxi Owners.
Improved Police Stations
Quick restoration to the demise of Hurricane Ivan
A structured and successful ARD to address Hurricane problems
Land reclamation from the sea (See the Esplanade success)
Increased post secondary opportunities for those from rural areas
Increased collaboration with the Republic of Cuba
The rebuilding of Mirabeau Hospital
The Structure of a new market in Grenville
New Bridges
Refurbished Roads
Bus terminals etc.
Certainly, I can go further but it is important to note that we have not seen the magnitude and sustainability of development and progress as seen under the leadership of the NEW NATIONAL PARTY.
Ordinary Grenadians are connected to this level of development and opportunities, they do not and will certainly reject an opposition party that cries "fowl" and cannot offer any positive suggestion for the way forward.
Therefore. It is very clear that the Keith Mitchell Government has delivered and if re-elected will certainly have a lot more to offer. I urge you all Grenadians to take a look around, think back 15 years ago and ask yourself if I was able to own a house, car or able to get a small loan to open my own business back then?
