22-YEAR OLD THE FINAL NNP CANDIDATE
A 22-year-old pastor in Grenada has become the youngest candidate to throw his hat into the political ring as anticipation mounts that general elections could be called before the end of this year. Devon Rachae, a CARICOM Youth Ambassador for the last three years, has been endorsed as the final candidate for Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell's ruling New National Party (NNP). Mr. Rachae, who is also a Youth Officer employed with the government, was chosen ahead of the Cuban-trained engineer, Gabriel Henry, after party supporters objected to Henry's selection. His endorsement means that the NNP now has a full slate of 15 candidates and the party is now expected to step up its campaigning for the polls which are constitutionally due next year but widely expected to be called soon. The NNP, in government for the past 13 years, is seeking a record fourth consecutive term. Prime Minister Mitchell stated recently that an election date would be announced at his party's next major political rally. Reprinted from radioja.com
