PEARL’S AIRSTRIP EXPECTED TO COME ALIVE THIS WEEKEND
GRENADA, May 27, 2008 - More than 60 race cars from Puerto Rico, Antigua, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago are expected to enter the Spice Island during the course of this week to participate in one of the biggest drag racing events to take place in the English-speaking Caribbean. This event is expected to take place over this weekend at the abandoned Pearl’s airstrip located in the eastern parish of St. Andrew. Drag racing is fast becoming a very popular sport in Grenada and thousands of spectators – locals as well as visitors from regional countries – are expected to line the Pearls airstrip to look at the drag race drivers compete against each other for championship honors as well as bragging rights. One of the key organizers of drag races in Grenada is Mr. Ian Da Breo, a drag racer and President of the Grenada Motor Club. He sees weekend’s races not only as a big event that will be rich in entertainment value but also as one that has the potential to further promote sports tourism in Grenada. by Wallace J.A Inside Grenada Reporter
