CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST CEO OF CAPITAL BANK INTERNATION...
ST. GEORGE’S:-In an interesting twist of events in the Capital Bank International saga, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in Grenada, Mr. Christopher Nelson, has decided to discontinue criminal proceedings against the bank’s CEO, Mr. Finton DeBourg. Mr. Nelson claims that after an examination of the evidence that was made available to him upon request, he has concluded that the charges were misconceived and could not be supported by the evidence available. It was against this background that the decision was made to discontinue the criminal charges against Mr. DeBourg. In a document dated June 12, 2008, the DPP wrote, “…take notice that by virtue of section 71 2 C of the constitution of Grenada and every other power thereunto enabling me, I hereby discontinue the captioned proceedings against you, Finton DeBourg, for the offense of fraudulent breach of trust.” One of the lawyers for Mr. DeBourg, Mr. Cajeton Hood, has expressed the opinion that there were no real grounds for bringing charges against his client and views the actions against Mr. De Bourg as one that might be politically motivated. Mr. Hood states that his client wants to be vindicated totally and hinted of the possibility of pursuing claims for malicious prosecution, false imprisonment among other damages and further suggested that those guilty of laying the charges may have to answer to the court.
