NNP MANIFESTO PROMISES COST-OF-LIVING RELIEF
Grenada's governing New National Party (NNP) on Wednesday evening unveiled a series of new measures to reduce cost of living, which it says will be implemented if it retains the government in the July 8 general election. The measures are contained in the NNP's 52-page manifesto, released during a special ceremony at the Trade Centre in St George's. Serious challenge "We are cognisant of the fact that rising food prices pose a serious challenge to our people, especially the poor and vulnerable," said Economic Affairs Minister Anthony Boatswain. The party said it wanted to remove or reduce duties on essential supplies and identify alternative sources to those available in the Caribbean. The manifesto says consideration will be given to pooling the purchase of items, such as food and textbooks, as well as improving feeder roads to reduce transaction costs to farmers. The incumbent party also wants to introduce an incentive scheme to boost agricultural output, such as the creation of a land-bank that would give citizens access to arable land for cultivation. Plans to provide seeds, planting material and fertilisers to persons in agriculture and encourage home gardening through training and awareness have also been outlined. Special window of financing If re-elected, the NNP said it would open a special window of financing to assist small farmers and fishermen access capital. Earlier this year, government launched separate food distribution and free milk programmes to help families combat the rising cost of living. Reprinted from jamaica-gleaner.com

Countryman, I must agree with you here. Rape and scrape and Gabriel, just to point out TWO realities: 1. A government can not provide a job for every single person in a country. The private sector and personal initiatives are possible options. 2. A manifesto indicates/shows what a political organization hopes to do if elected into office. (You will appreciate the fact that there will always be things to be done). A political organization that gives the impression that they can solve the unemployment situation completely and will do everything that there is to be done is just downright dishonest and deceptive. I hope no political party has been doing that to poor, unsuspecting Grenadians - to get their hopes up only to break it if they ever win. Also, the Bible speaks to not judging persons, Rape and Scrape, and you are doing something seriously wrong by calling down the wrath of God on yourself. As country man said, we need to put country first, be reasonable and realistic and work to build Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Rape and scrape, first we have to seperate church and state, your god reference about the hurricane is out of touch. You should do your research on how hurricanes are form,it has nothing to do with God,because it wouldnot be seasonal.I hope you understand.Right now we should try to get together and work for the common good of the country. There are to much negative vibes out there,to much back bitting, and to much he says and she says.Until we forget about party and put our country first there will never peace and prosperity.
