LATEST SCIENTIFIC POLL INDICATES LIKELY VICTORY FOR INC...
GRENADA:- The latest scientific election poll in Grenada, conducted by the New York based North American Caribbean Teachers Organization (NACTA), suggests that the incumbent New National Party (NNP) of Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell will be victorious in the July 8, 2008 general election in Grenada. The sample for the latest poll comprised 2,100 potential voters selected randomly from throughout the country. The NACTA poll reveals that the race is highly competitive in some constituencies but that the ruling NNP has an advantage over the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in that more voters appear to have greater trust and confidence in the NNP over the NDC. The poll also indicates that the New National Party has increased its lead in popular support to 11% over the National Democratic Congress and is gaining in momentum, contrary to pronouncements made by some prominent individuals on national radio and television in the absence of any hard scientific data. Another scientific poll conducted by a different polling organization recently has also given the NNP an edge over the NDC in Tuesday’s elections, despite the closeness of the contest. The NACTA poll reveals that the NNP has increased its lead over the NDC 51% to 41%, up from 49% to 41% back in May of this year. Today, the final day for campaigning, the two major political parties on the island will be staging two mega rallies. The NDC will be staging their rally at Progress Park in St. Andrew’s while the NNP will be staging theirs at the Athletics Stadium in Queens Park, St. George’s. The election campaign has been very tense and has been plagued by controversies, allegations and counter allegations, threats and inappropriate behavior on both sides. Many Grenadians have been hoping for a free and violent free election with the hope that there will be no unseemly aftermath. Talking to the local press late last week, Grenada’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Winston James, has indicated that the local police force should be enough to provide security and maintain law and order throughout the election period but should the need arise, assistance can be speedily sought from the RSS.
