GRENADA: - During a press conference held at the New National Party’s (NNP) Head Office on Upper Lucas Street yesterday, Public Relations Officer for the opposition NNP, Mr. Terrence Forrester, leveled allegations of intimidation, instilling fear and victimization against the newly elected National Democratic Congress (NDC) party of Prime Minister Tillman Thomas. Mr. Forrester told reporters that there was an atmosphere of nervousness and fear at the Prime Minister’s Office. One of the persons present at the press briefing was Ms. Cheryl Williams, an employee of the office and a former outreach officer. Ms. Williams informed reporters that she was taken away to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by police officers yesterday after she removed three bags of documents from the premises. She claimed that the contents of the bags were her personal possessions. She said that she was detained at the CID headquarters from 11:00 am to 3:45 pm and felt very hurt and humiliated by the way in which she was treated by the lawmen. Corporate Communications Officer for the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF), Mr. Troy Garvey, has since informed the media that Ms. Williams was carried to CID to avoid an atmosphere of intimidation while her documents were searched. Ms. Lana Mc Phail, Permanent Secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, is reported to have called a staff meeting early Thursday morning to inform her staff that they should continue cooperating as normal and that they should not remove any documents from their offices nor should they erase any information from their computers. Mr. Forrester also lashed out against the new administration for the humiliating and disrespectful way in which the security details and the two vehicles that were used by the former Prime Minister (now Opposition Leader) Dr. Mitchell was taken away from him. He said that the Opposition Leader was not given any prior notice about their removal so as to enable him to make alternative arrangements. The present NDC government of Mr. Tillman Thomas came into power on Tuesday after languishing in opposition for 13 years. The NDC attained a landslide victory at the polls, winning 11 of the 15 seats that were contested. The five week period of intense campaigning preceding polling day was very heated and saturated with tension. At present, there is some residual disappointment and animosity on one side of the political fence while there is some extra exuberance and occasional taunting on the other side as party loyalists on both sides try to come to terms with the results of the election. Prime Minister Tillman Thomas has promised to unite Grenadians after elections and usher in a new period for democracy in the country. He has stated that he intends to lead a government that will not be involved in victimization or intimidation of persons, but instead, will be characterize by a high level of inclusion, cooperation, consultation, transparency, accountability, fair play and integrity in public office. Each Prime Minister done some good but the same airport that is bringing tourism and revenue in town was built by the revolutionaty PM. this airport was the best thing that happen to Grenada and it would have beeb better if they had kept Pearls Airport in time we would of been more Proud when we realised we had two airport it was called airport then. Hangman whoever you are you talk a book. Once we start doing for ourselves we'll be all better of. We sit around and wait for everyone else to do for us as though they owe us something. Giving Jack his Jacket it doesn't matter which party it is, at least a reasonable time should be alotted for handing over,Show a little class. Let us hope after this incident we should have all learnt something. Mr Thomas says he wants to work together for the good of the Country my interpretation, so let us all try to do the same...
