NEW OPPOSITION LEADER TAKES OATH OF OFFICE
click
GRENADA: Former Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. Keith Mitchell, yesterday (Wednesday July 16, 2008) took the Oath of Office as Leader of Her Majesty’s Opposition. The swearing in ceremony took place at the Governor General’s residence and was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, business men, former ministers and senators, NNP candidates in the last election, members of civil society, supporters and well-wishers. After taking the Oath of Office, the Opposition Leader addressed the gathering, giving them a glimpse into the sort of work that his opposition team will be engaged in over the upcoming years. He promised that he will be very supportive of any plans/programs put forward by the new government that are designed to bring benefits to the country and its people, however, he promised that his team will be very firm in articulating their opposition to anything that is not in the best interest of the Grenadian people. Dr. Mitchell will head a four-man opposition team in the House of Representatives. He will be joined and supported by Hon. Clarice Modeste-Curwen, Hon. Roland Bhola and Hon. Elvin Nimrod. The new Opposition Leader told his party’s supporters that they should not feel too depressed by their 11-4 defeat at the polls and informed them that the New National Party (NNP) has a very strong base to build on because the party would have captured some 48% of the total votes cast on polling day and only approximately 1800 votes separated the NNP from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) of Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas. Dr. Mitchell is not a newcomer to the Opposition bench in Parliament. He was the Leader of the Opposition under the Nicholas Braithwaite led NDC administration which loss the 1995 elections to his party. Dr. Mitchell has remained Prime Minister of Grenada for the past 13 years, leading his party to an unprecedented three consecutive victories at the polls before loosing this year to Hon. Tillman Thomas. The three Opposition Senators that will be seating in the Upper House are Mr. Kennedy Roberts, Mr. Dwight Horsford (attorney-at-law) and Mr. Devon DeRoche. Outsider is best to leave keith outside where everyone could see what he is up to jail don't even want this man when i tell you that I tell you all the man is in his own personal jail serving his own sentence in silence whats worse than that let him stay outside and see real progress in time. Sometimes we leave criminals to run free eating up on the inside. If I was a judge in a court of law I will set him free Poor Soul. Money can't buy a good name "a Good name is better to be chosen than great riches". there are some people that jail can do nothing for according to how they are going to jail make them worse in mind.Just for the Record keith is not hte only Criminal runnign free on the outside in Grenada but they all doing time in their consciensc hoping people will foget them in time?????????????????????????

How come there is so much negativity from you people? We just had an election and a new government.I don't hear anyone speaking about the challenges to be faced by the NDC,namely poverty, crime and infrastructure. You people wasting your time talking about issues beyong your control. What we can control is progress for Grenada.Enough about the bad politics and lets instead focus on bringing Grenada back to respectability.
