ONLINE POLL REVEALS GRENADIANS' DISSATISFACTION WITH EL...
An online poll conducted by Grenadian Connection on its Inside Grenada link reveals that Grenadians would like to see significant improvements in the way politicians and political parties conduct their election campaigns in the future. The questions in the poll were posted online on July 9, 2008 - the day after general election in Grenada - with a view to capturing the sentiments of Grenadians on the way in which the election campaign was conducted by the various political parties. A total of 41% of the votes recorded reveal that Grenadians were most dissatisfied with the personal attacks and attempts at character assassinations that politicians and their surrogates engaged in throughout the period of the campaign. 24% of the respondents also indicated that Grenadians were not pleased with the amount of ‘mega concerts’ and rallies that were held and felt that politicians did not spend enough time discussing the issues that they were concerned about or that the sincerity of the messages was lost in the party-like atmosphere. A total of 14% of the respondents were displeased with the ‘color politics’ that emerged during the election period - with the population being split right down the middle along ‘green’ and ‘yellow’ lines - while 11% was dissatisfied with the number of arguments and conflicts that erupted between supporters of the different political parties. 8% of the respondents were not comfortable with the use of religion and gospel concerts on the political platform while 3% were of the view that there were too many motorcades and blaring speakers, contributing towards noise pollution and traffic related inconveniences. Although the Inside Grenada poll is not a scientific one, it nonetheless reveals some deep seated concerns that the Grenadian electorate harbor with respect to the conduct of politicians and their agents during the recent political campaigns. It is expected that ‘Civil Society ‘ and other relevant organizations/ agencies will learn from the many shortcomings that were quite evident throughout the recent campaign and put the relevant structures in place so that in future elections, a lot of the negatives that surfaced during the run-up to election will be significantly minimized. ONLINE POLL REVEALS GRENADIANS' DISSATISFACTION WITH EL...
Well, the personal attacks came from both sides and that had nothing to do with the solving Grenadians problems or issues coming to light. Also, with the population split almost half to half, an attempt at revolution would have led to civil war. All because of bitterness and greed for power or to remain in power. It is time Grenadians wise up and realize what politics and politicians are up to - divide and rule!
