GRENADA ELECTRICITY WORKERS STRIKE
About 100 employees of the Grenada Electricity Company yesterday stayed off the job for the second consecutive day, to press for a cost of living adjustment to their new wage agreement. The decision to continue the protest action came after a meeting late Monday, involving the company's Management, the Technical and Allied Workers Union and Labour Commissioner Cyrus Griffith, failed to reach a clear settlement. The striking workers --about half of the electricity company's staff --have demanded a 7.5 percent increase on salary adjustments for 2007, after the results of a job evaluation carried out by the Trinidad and Tobago-based Human Systems Limited. The company and one of the unions have already signed on to the new three-year wage agreement which includes a 4.25 percent pay hike on salaries for 2008. The electricity company's manager, Vernon Lawrence, has described the strike as illegal since, according to him, the action was taken without communication with the company. He noted that the utility company is an essential service and has therefore accused the union of ignoring grievances procedures. Reprinted from radioja.com

i totally agrees with you comment mr paul ,these workers were at the time serving their masters ,now that there is a new government in power they should look at the broader picture on behalf of all grenadians and her sister isles, please please let us work together for the good of all of us,grenada belongs to all of us, and please give this new government a chance, and in time we will all benifit in the long run because together we can and will overcome the hardship which some of us experience before, because we are a strong god fearing people so lets work together.

I think they should all be fired and just employ some foreigners things are hard all over the world. Get foreign workers they are cheaper and less work and complaints.as a matter of fact they should concentrate on more agiculture to ease the stress of the cost of living people must go back to fresh foods for a better state of mind there are too much additives in the bottled and tin foods all these will help the rise in cost of living eat more potaotes, yams and fresh friut juices.
