GRENADA ELECTRICITY WORKERS BACK ON THE JOB |
|
|
The union representing striking electricity workers in Grenada have called off their one week old protest action, following last ditched negotiations.
About 100 employees of the Grenada Electricity Services have been off the job, pressing their claims for a cost of living adjustment to their wage agreement.
The workers, who had been marching the streets and picketing government's Labour Department, were clamouring for a cost of living adjustment to a new wage agreement covering 2006 to 2008.
However, after mediation efforts Thursday by the ministry of labour, the workers and their union - the Technical and Allied Workers Union - said they are prepared to accept what is on offer from company's management.
The new offer is reported to be a 7 percent increase for 2008, up from 4.25 per cent which was originally agreed to, on top of a new GRENLEC offer of 2 percent for all workers who did not qualify for an increase under a job evaluation exercise for 2007.
