Chief Executive of Cable and Wireless St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenadian Angus Steele has taken over the presidency of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber of Commerce. Steele, a former vice president of operations and head of customer care at Cable & Wireless Grenada, was elected to the post at a general meeting of the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Chamber on July 16th 2008. “It’s a pleasure for me to be chosen to serve as the President of the St. Vincent & The Grenadines Chamber of Industry and Commerce and this once again demonstrates that CSME is working and would continue to be good for our region and island states” Steele who was a board member of the Grenada Chamber of Industry & Commerce up to his departure from Grenada last December, says its his desire to work with the business community in St. Vincent & the Grenadines during his tenure in office. “As the head of a business operating within St. Vincent & The Grenadines, I recognize the importance of the Chamber in working with all businesses within the community and I remain committed, along with the rest of the new leadership, to serve all those businesses well through advocacy, business development services and strategic alliances” Steele takes over from Gerry George, the corporate communications manager of arch rival Digicel. George told reporters in St.Vincent he believes the chamber achieved much during his presidency. His new leadership team includes senior vice president Andrew Woodroffe and vice president finance and administration Samuel Goodluck. According to a report in the Searchlight newspaper in Kingstown, some members of the Chamber are questioning Steele’s ability to lead the organisation given that he is non-Vincentian. However Steele won a democratic election within a Vincentian organisation. Source: Office of the Prime Minister
