ST.ANDREW’S – The St. Andrew’s Carnival Development Committee (SACDC) headed by well- known Grenville businessman, Peter Bain, successfully staged its annual St. Andrew’s Queen Show last Saturday (August 2, 2008) at the Grenville Secondary School. One of the key organizers for the event was Ms. Maudlin Baptiste, a woman with a wealth of experience in putting together competitions of this nature. Five young ladies vied against each other for the coveted title of Miss St. Andrew’s 2008. They were: * Miss Tivoli, Lianna Frederick, sponsored by “Bain & Sons” * Miss La Fillette, Nadine Calliste, sponsored by “Hot Wax” * Miss Grand Bras, Tara Adonis, sponsored by “Alexander Rentals” * Miss Mirabeau, Caleisha Alexander, sponsored by ” BBs Crab Back Restaurant” * Miss Hope, Leisha Frank, sponsored by “Waggy T” The queen show was well attended and patrons evidently had a good time, looking at each of the five talented young ladies as they did their introductions, their talent, modeled in their swim wear, paraded on stage with their costumes and graced the stage in their elegant-looking evening wear. At the end of the competition, Miss Tara Adonis (Miss Grand Bras) was crowned the St. Andrew’s Queen for 2008, amassing a total of 596.5 points. The 1st runner up was Miss Lianna Frederick (Miss Tivoli), amassing 538 points and Miss Caleisha Alexander(Miss Mirabeau) was the 2nd runner-up with 500.5 points. Tara Adonis also received the awards for Best Talent, Best Interview, Best Evening wear and shared the Best Swim wear award with Lianna Frederick (Miss Tivoli), who also got the awards for Best Introduction and Best Costume. Meanwhile, Miss St. Patrick (Asheida Charles) is the new Grenada National Carnival Queen, heading off competition from six other contestants to win the coveted crown and the 2008 title. The National Queen Show took place at the National Stadium last night (August 07, 2008). Miss St. George, Lisha Thomas, was the 1st runner up and Miss Carriacou & Petit Martinique was the 2nd runner up.
