One of the local media houses on the island is reporting that prominent Grenadian attorney, Dr. Francis Alexis, has written to the Grenadian Voice (a local weekly newspaper) giving the owner/editor until August 18, 2008 to make a full and complete public retraction of allegations made in its July 26, 2008 publication. The letter, purportedly written by Dr. Alexis on behalf of His Lordship, Vincent Darius of the Roman Catholic Church, seeks redress for libelous information contained in the ‘Personally Speaking’ column of the newspaper dated July 26. The article contained information which alleges that Bishop Darius, from the pulpit, urged his congregation to vote for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) instead of the New National Party (NNP). Dr. Alexis claims that the allegation is false and constitutes a very serious libel on His Lordship Bishop Darius. The letter requests an apology to His Lordship in terms approved by Dr. Alexis.
