St. George’s, Grenada, August 25, 2008: A total of 3,327 candidates were registered to write CXC (CSEC examinations in May/June 2008. 1,899 were students attending schools and 1,428 were private candidates. There were 11,543 subject entries.
Overall there were 907 Grade one, 2,463 Grade two, 3,817 Grade three, 2,363 Grade four, 1,358 Grade five, 59 Grade six and 573 ungraded or absent.
The past rate in the examination is 62%. In 2007 the past grade was 62%.
The largest entries were in English A (1,613), Social Studies (1,188), Mathematics (976) and Principles of Business (809).
The lowest entries were in Typewriting (10), Mechanical Engineering technology (13) and Electronic Documentation Preparation and Management (48).
The subjects with the highest percentage past were Physical Education and Sport (87%), Food and Nutrition (85%), Agricultural Science (81%) and Principles of Business (81%).
The subjects with the lowest percentage past were Technical Drawing (20%), Mathematics (35%), Mechanical Engineering Technology (38%) and Visual Art (39%).
