On August 27, 2008, the Government of Grenada paid back pay due to the island's teachers for the period January to December 2006, in the sum of two million, two hundred and eleven thousand, six hundred and eighty one dollars ($2,211,681.00).
This payment is consistent with the agreement between Government and the Grenada Union of Teachers signed in June of this year.
In addition, one-off payments for 2007 were made to public officers in the sum of one million nine hundred and forty one thousand, seven hundred and ninety six dollars ($1,941,796.00).
Retroactive payments for the period 2006-2007, due to cooks of the School Feeding Programme are currently being arranged in the sum of $150,000.00.
With these payments, Government has already paid more than $20 million in retroactive payments to various public officers and civil servants in 2008.
All public officers/civil servants were paid on time in the month of August 2008.

Denver wake up as my friend said what money did the last government put aside to pay the teachers and the public officers come to think of it this on going issue have been a bone of contension with the last government for some years now did you not remember that the teachers went on strike some eighteen months or so ago concerning these issues so please put your glasses on this government was voted by the people for a new change and we all need to be positive and think positive and yes have a go at them to remind them of their promise but at the same time praise them when they do some thing good for the country and all its people.

Good job NDC, the only thing is, that is money that the previous NNP administration had put aside for payment to the abovementioned workers!!
