The Ministry of Education and the Grenada National Commission for UNESCO remain interested in supporting activities that would improve Literacy in Grenada. This year, International Literacy Day (ILD) will be celebrated on Monday September 8th, 2008, with specific focus on the vital relationship between literacy and health; which is also emphasized in theme for the 2007- 2008 biennium of the United Literacy Decade (UNLD). The slogan for International Literacy Day 2008 is “Literacy, the best remedy”. Schools in Grenada are encouraged to undertake events or activities that celebrate International Literacy Day. Activities should emphasize the link between literacy, epidemics and communicable diseases e.g.; HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
