In response to recent comments made in the local media, Commissioner of Police Mr. James Clarkson, reiterates his intention to reorganize, redirect and refocus the Royal Grenada Police Force along ethical, professional lines. Commissioner Clarkson outlined his intention while addressing the ranks of the Force on Tuesday 26th August ’08 at the Trade Centre in St. George’s. During his address the Commissioner stressed the need for the Force to be truly professional and be voided of any political interference and/or influence. There is no yellow or green Force, there is only one Royal Grenada Police Force, says Clarkson. The newly appointed Commissioner in responding to the statements carried in the media, made reference to comments made by the former Commissioner Mr. Winston James during a farewell message to members of the Force. Mr. James warned members then, to discontinue all political shenanigans within the ranks, be professional when executing their duties and move away from the crab in the barrel approach. He also gave examples of Officers he knew to be involved in various political activities and unprofessional conduct, and they were forced to end their tenure with the Royal Grenada Police Force. Commissioner Clarkson reminded members of the Force, that our history has shown us that every time there is direct, inappropriate political interference in the general operations of the Force there is always serious negative consequences and repercussions. I will not manage a Police Force that is controlled and /or micro managed by politicians, says Clarkson. The practice of Officers running to the Botanical Gardens must stop immediately. We must use this opportunity to refocus and rededicate ourselves to the task of rebuilding the Royal Grenada Police Force, the Commissioner stated. Commissioner Clarkson advises the Nation that the reorganization of the Force will continue, to increase and improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the institution. He also wishes to assure the ranks that there is absolutely no reason to be intimidated by the reorganization, and Senior Officers must be aware of their responsibilities, and the importance of observing the organizational and operational structures of the Royal Grenada Police Force. Commissioner Clarkson insisted that the Royal Grenada Police Force under his command will be responsive to the needs of the community, firm when executing our duties, do our utmost to preserve the peace, prevent and detect crime, protect lives and property and prosecute offenders. This we must do without fear, favour or ill-will, Mr. Clarkson concluded. From the RGPF Inside Grenada News
