NNP RESPONDS TO COMMISSIONER CLARKSON STATEMENTS
click
The New National Party is concerned about the implication of a recent statement made by the new Commissioner of Police James Clarkson which can be described as misleading and seeks to attack the reputation of the police officers concerned. In a recent press conference, the Commissioner was heard to say that all the files in the Special Branch Unit of the RGPF were destroyed soon after the July 8th general elections. This gave the perception that certain files were deliberately destroyed in order to hide certain information. It further gave the impression that this action was taken to protect the former Government. If the Commissioner took the time off to research, he would have learnt that all the information that he has reported as missing from that Department are all on the computer system which the United States Government gave to the Royal Grenada Police Force nearly three years ago. The normal procedure in that Unit is to enter all important and relevant information on the computer system from the paper files and subsequently destroy the paper files. This procedure has been used ever since the computer system for retaining information was engaged. All Special Branch officers can attest to that fact. Additionally, there is a back-up system in place keeping all records just in case there is a problem in the main system, so there is no need to keep a stack of paper documents in the Unit to clog up the limited space there. The New National Party calls on the Commissioner to avoid taking any hasty action or making any unnecessary public comments which can further demoralize members of the Police Force as their services are so necessary to maintaining the peace and stability Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique has enjoyed over the last thirteen years.
