FINANCE MINISTER ACTS AS PRIME MINISTER

Finance Minister Hon. Nazim Burke, has been appointed Acting Prime Minister in the absence from the state of Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas who is in Barbados attending a CARICOM Heads of government meeting. The meeting is discussing a collective regional response to the European Partnership Agreement (EPA) with the aim of determining whether Caribbean governments sign on to the EPA or not. Foreign Minister Hon. Peter David and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oliver Joseph are accompanying the Prime Minister. From Barbados the three member delegation will travel to St. Lucia for a meeting of OECS Heads of Government. That meeting will discuss the latest proposal from Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minster Patrick Manning for the deepening of the regional integration process. As a result Agriculture Minister Hon. Michael D. Lett has been appointed to act as Foreign Minister. Minister for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture, Hon. Patrick Simmonds, is also acting in the capacity of Minister of Education, with Senator the Hon. Franka Bernadine representing Grenada at a Literacy conference in Mexico. In addition Minister of State in the Ministry of Health Senator Hon. Ann Peters is acting in the position of Minister of Social Development, Ecclesiastical Affairs and Labour in the absence of Hon. Glynis Roberts, who is representing Grenada at two international meetings in Geneva and New York. Inside Grenada News
