Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas and today met with the staff of the National Disaster Management Authority NADMA and toured its Morne Jaloux facilities. "NADMA is a very important agency which needs to be functioning well," the prime Minister told the staff. He said the Agency must work to ensure disaster management is a top priority in Grenada, given the island's geographical location. The Prime Minister, under whose portfolio NADMA falls, said the agency was take its role seriously given the active nature of the hurricane season. "We must not become complacent. This is the height of the hurricane season and we have to ensure we are always prepared for whatever comes our way, this should not be limited to hurricanes but earth quakes and other natural disasters as well," Prime Minister Thomas, accompanied by his Permanent Secretary, Ann Isaac, told the staff. He noted that the agency should have implemented the lessons learnt from Hurricanes Ivan in 2004 and Emily in 2005. He called for continued efforts in getting the community coordinators involved in the process. "Having people at the level of the community ready to work in the time of a disaster is critical. Your contact at that level could mean the difference between success and failure," He said. The Prime Minister addressed a number of concerns of NADMA employees and was given a tour of NADMA facilities. Inside Grenada News
