GOVERNMENT ESTABLISHES A NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY COMMITT...
click
The government has approved the establishment of a National Food Security Committee to be chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and comprising representative of several government ministries and non governmental organizations. These include the Ministries of Agriculture, Finance, Health and Education, The Marketing and National Importing Board (MNIB), The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council, Farmers Association and the Private sector. The National Food Security committee is tasked with developing a comprehensive national plan for improving the nation's food security, monitor the progress of the plan and ensure planned activities are properly implemented. At a recently concluded retreat Minister of Agriculture Hon. Michael Denis Lett gave the government's commitment to rejuvenate the industry and develop strategies to meet the demand for local foods. The retreat also agreed to target the production of root crops which could assist in disaster mitigation. Food Security exists when all people, at all times, have physical and economic access to enough safe and nutritious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy lifestyle. With the advent of rising food and energy prices globally, Governments around the world are now focusing heavily on increased production of food to meet the needs of their populations. Some countries have even applied export controls or banned exportation of rice, sugar and wheat. The problem has been so severe that it has caused riots, destabilized a number of countries, and intensified poverty, hunger and malnutrition in scores of countries. Inside Grenada News

Little boy as much as i agrees with you i still wont go about eating my people but on a more serious note why are some of our people no longer care about the land, for we were at one time proud owners of our little garden ,you now as a boy i could not wait for the school holidays when by my grand aunt would pack us off to the land to cutlass, then burn the grass/wood,then leave things for a while before digging/forking you know preparing the land for planting and boy what a sight it was to see the things that you plant start to grow i tell you there is not a more pleasant sight to behold /see that which is growing from the land, and yes we have had our ups and down but god have bless grenada with rich beautiful soil for planting and harvesting and we should try and get back ,yes we have suffered under janet, ivan, emilly.and you know who but we are a strong god fearing people and it is high time we bring back some of that strong spirit that we used to have, so my call to our people is LETS GET BACK TO THE LAND for that is where we came from,so lets plant it.

If GRENADIANS wont work and plant the lands, yet steal when honest farmers plant their crops and vegetables, I think we should let them go and eat the politians. When things bad and food is not available because of your own laziness and stupidity, then eat the fellows in the goverment. They put you Grenada in the state it is. If you want to make sense, take back what little lands are left that Mitchell gave away, and some of what Gairy also gave took and gave away where no houses are built, and plant nutmegs, cocoa, sugar cane and bananas again.
