SGU AFFECTED BY INDUSTRIAL ACTION
The industrial action taken by 300 Grenadian workers at the American- owned St George's University in Grenada (SGU) has affected the security, transportation and maintenance of the university. The workers went on strike following a breakdown of talks between the Technical and Allied Workers Union (TAWU) and SGU over salary increases. The talks collapsed after the TAWU refused to apologise over the contents of a pamphlet being circulated on the campus, which depicted, in caricature, alleged statements from the University's management and the response of workers. The Union's General Secretary, Burt Patterson said that the Union did not produce the pamphlet and therefore would not apologise. The Minister of Labour will intervene in the strike in order to resolve the issue. The SGU has nearly 5,000 students from 80 countries and employs more than 500 Grenadians. SGU AFFECTED BY INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Strange enough. As Grenadians, we surely have a good way of doing ourselves out of employment. Its too sad this also couldn't be shipped to India or one of the other neighbouring countries. I imagine one of these centuries we may finally learn.
