PM THOMAS MEETS ANSA MCAL REPRESENTATIVES
Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas says his administration is looking to strengthening the partnership between the public and private sectors. He was this morning speaking to representatives of the Ansa Mcal group of companies who paid a courtesy call to present a new book on the history of the successful Caribbean company. “Our government’s position is that the private sector is the engine of growth for the economy. We want to strengthen that position by developing partnerships with the private sector to move this from an idea to a reality so that the private sector can play a more significant role in our economy,” he told the Ansa Mcal representatives. Given the success of the Ansa Mcal group of companies, the Prime Minister said the publication came at a good time because it should have some ideas that the private sector in Grenada may be able to learn from. The Prime Minister said one of the main pillars of the island’s growth potential is agro- processing of Grenada’s fruits. He requested the members of the Ansa Mcal group to investigate whether the Grenada breweries can support this thrust. The group’s Chief Operating Officer Gerry C. Brooks and Sector Head of the Beverage arm of the group, Andrew Sabga spoke of the company’s desire to play a more meaningful role in the development of the Grenada economy. They also called for more discussion on how Grenada can assist the company in strengthening its flagship Carib brand. Mr. Brooks also invited Prime Minister Thomas to Trinidad to address the employees of the company, an invitation with the Prime Minister has accepted. The Ansa Mcal group is the major shareholder in the Grenada Breweries, the brewers o Carib Beer. The delegation also included Dr. Partick Antoine, adviser to the company and Ron Antoine, General Manager of the Grenada Breweries Limited.
